At Blackpool Design Coachuilders, we love a unique challenge—and this one ticked all the boxes. We recently completed a full conversion of a double-decker bus into a mobile outreach vehicle with a mission to serve and connect with local communities. This project wasn’t just about transforming a vehicle—it was about helping to create a space that’s welcoming, practical, and ready to roll anywhere it’s needed.
A Complete Exterior Makeover
We started with a full paint refresh to give the bus a clean, modern look. Then came the custom vinyl graphics, inside and out, designed to reflect the church’s message and mission while standing out in any setting. A 5-metre retractable awning was added to extend the space outdoors—perfect for hosting events, offering shelter, or creating a friendly drop-in area.
Power and Tech That Go the Distance
To keep this vehicle self-sufficient, we installed a full range of power solutions: solar panels, a generator, a small wind turbine, and an external power hook-up. No matter the setting, this bus has the ability to stay powered and connected.
Onboard are multiple smart TVs, including one outward-facing screen ideal for displaying messages, videos, or livestreams to passers-by. The vehicle is also fitted with WiFi, making it easy to stay connected and share resources on the go.
Comfort Meets Accessibility
Inside, we custom-built upholstered seating for comfort and durability, laid down non-slip Altro flooring for safety, and installed a diesel heater and hot water system to keep things cosy and functional year-round.
Accessibility was a top priority. We maintained the original wheelchair ramp and created ample space to ensure all visitors feel welcome and accommodated.

This double-decker isn’t just a vehicle—it’s a mobile base, thoughtfully designed to support outreach, engagement, and community impact wherever it goes.
